About Me

Whilst completing my degree in Commercial Music, I decided to write my dissertation on ‘The Power of Music’. During this research I discovered Music Therapy which fascinated me. Once I had completed my degree, I volunteered for ‘Singing for The Brain’ who run as a part of the Alzheimer’s society. I hoped that this would help me to gain an insight into music therapy and to witness the positive effects it can have on individuals and their families suffering with Dementia. I couldn’t believe how powerful these sessions were, I witnessed individuals accessing autobiographical memories by singing and playing along to well-known songs and associating them with their past. I knew from this moment on that this was the job I wanted to do for the rest of my life. This experience led me to apply for the masters training at The University of South Wales.

I enjoyed working in many different areas during my training which included palliative care for children, mental health in adults suffering with substance misuse issues and adults with dementia. Since qualifying, I have continued working in palliative care and within special schools for children with learning disabilities and autism. As well as this I have experience of working in post adoption and mental health with teenagers struggling with transitions. Much of my work is 1:1 but I also run small groups. These can help individuals to connect with others, explore changes, feelings and experiences with peers and can provide opportunities to explore sensory processing, along with occasions to practice social communication skills and collaboration with others.

My main instrument is guitar and voice, but I do also enjoy playing the piano, flute and various other percussion instruments too!

I am a highly dedicated Music Therapist who is always excited to explore new areas of work and see the positive effects music therapy has on so many people
